Hi! I’m Brae, your guide to this year’s special edition of Gifts from the Heart!
I’m named after a very special ship called the Beaverbrae that brought thousands of people to safety in Canada after the Second World War. Next year we’re celebrating the 80th anniversary of the very first time it sailed — it’s so exciting!
That’s why this year’s edition Gifts from the Heart has special items that help care for people who had to leave their homes because of wars or disasters. Just look for the little present icon to find my picks for gifts that help displaced people.

Emergency water
In crowded refugee camps, or shelters, clean water saves lives. Your gift will provide a family with a safe source of water while they get through crisis.
Safe space for women
Help us give women a community space where they can receive support, security, skills training and trauma care after they've been displaced by violence.
Shelter for refugees
People fleeing disasters or wars desperately need a safe place to live. Your gift helps provide emergency shelter to people who’ve had to flee — especially more vulnerable people like single mothers or people with disabilities.
Warm blankets
When people leave home fleeing wars or disasters, sometimes they only can take the clothes on their backs. Your gift will help keep families warm with new blankets.
Dignity kit
Many women who are displaced can’t get basic menstrual health items, which stops them from going to school or work. The gift of a dignity kit, which includes soap, underwear and sanitary pads, gives them an equal chance to work and learn.
Mobile clinics
As families in the West Bank face increased violence, your gift will help our partners at Augusta Victoria Hospital bring vital health care to people in need through their mobile mammography and diabetes clinics.
Emergency response fund
Your gift could be life-saving when disaster strikes and every hour matters. A gift to this special fund helps our partners respond quickly with water, shelter, medical care and more.
Emergency food
Give life-saving food to a family in an emergency. When disaster, drought or famine strikes, your gift will allow our local partners to immediately get life-saving food to families facing severe malnutrition.
Refugee sponsorship
Eighty years ago CLWR was started when Lutherans offered a new start in Canada for people displaced by war. Continue the tradition with a gift to our refugee sponsorship program.
Build a latrine
Latrines help keep waste out of drinking water. Your gift provides materials for a refugee family to build a latrine, improving health for the whole family.
Hygiene kit
When people have lost their home or had to flee, they don’t usually have hygiene supplies like toothbrushes or soap. Your gift will provide supplies to help a displaced family maintain health and hygiene.
Women in business
Many displaced people are single mothers who don’t have a stable source of income. Your investment in an aspiring entrepreneur will equip her with what she needs to start a business.
Clean drinking water for a community
Everyone should be able to get enough clean water to meet their daily needs. You can build a well in a refugee settlement, which will provide refugees the life-giving water they need.
