On June 24, two major earthquakes struck western Venezuela within seconds of each other. The larger measured magnitude 7.5 — the most powerful the country has recorded in more than 125 years, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Buildings have collapsed in Caracas and across several states, a national state of emergency is in place, and search-and-rescue is underway.
Families have lost their homes and everything in them. They need shelter, clean water, and basic supplies right now.
How CLWR is responding.
CLWR is responding through the Lutheran World Federation. LWF already works across Colombia and Venezuela and has people and supply lines in the region — which means your gift supports a response that's already moving, not one waiting to begin.
Venezuela is not unfamiliar ground for us. CLWR has worked through LWF on the country's long humanitarian crisis, supporting families displaced by it. We know the partner, and the partner knows the context.
We start by helping people survive the crisis. Then we stay to help them recover and rebuild.
