Tensions across the Middle East have sharply escalated following coordinated strikes by the United States and Israel on targets inside Iran, and subsequent retaliatory attacks in surrounding countries. The situation remains volatile, with airspace disruptions, heightened security alerts and growing fears of wider humanitarian consequences across the region.
The conflict has had its most severe impacts inside Iran, where strikes have caused significant civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure. Across the wider region, communities are also experiencing growing uncertainty and displacement.
Airstrikes and retaliatory exchanges have displaced more than 30,000 people. Families are fleeing their homes and seeking shelter in schools, collective centres or with host communities.
Around 11,000 people — mostly Syrians returning from Lebanon — have crossed back into Syria, adding pressure to already fragile communities and overstretched services.
The country remains stable. Missile interceptions caused minor property damage but no casualties. Public services and humanitarian programs continue to operate.
